Alice - The Beginning
"Don't look!" She whispered fiercly. I turned away. The heat settled against my back, reaching through me.
"Pease stop!" I cried, "Stop!" Dark spots appeared on the floor. Tears fell. "STOPPPP!"
Thousands of murmuring sounds filled my head. "Please...." Everything began to crumble. The only thing left was a candle, overpowering the darkness with light.
-
"W-what?" I sat up. The grass beneath my fingers felt stiff. "Where did she go? Where...is she?" I wiped my eyes to get rid of the moisture that had built up.
"Where is who?" A sudden voice said, causing my heart to skip. I looked up to see a girl. "So, I guess you're awake then. You looked a little dead, lying there. It almost worried me."
"Ehh..."
She grabed my arm and pulled me up. "Well, c'mon, then. No use staying here."
After brushing the loose grass off of my pants, we began walking. Minutes later, a small, cozy house appeared.
"This way."
The girl opened the front door and led me to a well-lit room. There was a nice smell of hot berries floating throughout the house. It reminded me of something from the past---and, with a great shiver, I realized it---A past I couldn't remember.
"What's wrong? Is your face always that pale?"
My mind flashed back to present time. "Well, m-maybe," I responded, "But, um, who are you?"
The girl looked at the blank television screen. "Mint. My name's Mint."
Thoughts began spinning in my brain as I tried to remember what had happened in my life a year ago. But there was nothing. Not even a shred of memory from who I was the day before. "Oh," I said, replying to Mint.
"Oh...?" She repeated, "Then, who are you?"
"My name--um--my name is Alice," I lied. Or... maybe I didn't. It was the first one I could think of. So, from then on, I was Alice.
